What is Sunnah

The word Sunnah means a “path”,”tradition” or “way.”It is also spelled as sunna or sunnat,

But in Islam its meaning is the way of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

The Life of Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلمis a good model for the Muslim to follow in their own life.

In other words the Sunnah refer to the Example of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

Types of Sunnah

There are 3 Types of Sunnah

  1. Sunnah-ne-Obodeya (سننه عبوديه)
  2. Sunnah-ne-Aadeya (سننه عاديه)
  3. Sunnah-ne-Mahsosa (سننه مخصوصه)

1) Sunnah-ne-Obodeya (سننه عبوديه):

It is the First type of Sunnah which is related to Islam . We have to follow this type of Sunnah. for example Nimaz ,Roza ,Zakat,Hajj etc these all came in this type of Sunnah.

This type is also divided into 3 types

  • Sunnah Qawliyy
  • Sunnah Fiiliyy
  • Sunnah Taqririyy

 I) Sunnah Qawliyy :

The sayings of Muhammad is Known as Sunnah Qawliyy. The sayings of Muhammad are noted down by the companions and called hadith. It is generally synonym (the same or nearly the same meaning as another word or a phrase) with Hadith.

 II) Sunnah Fiiliyy :

The actions of Muhammad is known as Sunnah Fiiliyy. It includes both religious and worldly actions.

 III) Sunnah Taqririyy :

When the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلمgive the Approval according to islam.

When Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلمkept silent for an action and did not oppose it.

When the Islamic Prophet showed his pleasure and smiled for a companion’s action

2) Sunnah-ne-Aadeya (سننه عاديه) :

This is the Senond type of Sunnah. The  Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلمwear the clothes of Arabic Culture it is also know as Sunnah. But if we dont wear the Clothes which our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلمwear so nothing will happen.

 3) Sunnah-ne-Mahsosa (سننه مخصوصه) :

This is the Third type of Sunnah. This Sunnah was only for our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) not for anyone else . For example we can only Marry 4 Women at a time but  Hazrat Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم married with 13 Women .
